Here's what Bugatti doesn't want you to know about the Chiron!

Today, I will be showing you the Chiron’s best kept secret. Seen here is the dark Blue Bugatti Chiron
that was at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. It was the first Chiron I had seen, so naturally I was pretty excited to film the car.

I started at the front of the car and focused primarily on its wide stance. The wheels are giant and luxurious and the side profile has that giant C-Shape that replaces the giant rooftop ducts on the Veyron that are used for engine cooling. Imagine my surprise however, when I walked to the back of the car, and saw these terribly ugly black plastic covers on the back of the car that protruded at an absurd angle. I couldn’t figure out what they were, but someone near me heard my surprise when I saw them. He explained to me what I was seeing.

As it turns out, to get every Bugatti Chiron through customs and inspection into the United States, Bugatti must attach these black bumpers so the car is in spec with American federal law. That made sense, except for one tiny oversight. I had never seen a Chiron online with these American spec bumpers before, and I knew there to be some examples of the 1500 horsepower car stateside.

He then explained that Bugatti sends a toolkit to take the bumpers off of the car as soon as it goes through inspection, and that most owners or dealers take them off immediately upon receipt of the car…for obvious reasons. They ruin the entire profile, ¾ and money shot of the rear of the car, hence why you’ve never seen one like this before.

This car is owned by the Bugatti dealer in Chicago, and I’m not quite certain why they didn’t remove them before bringing it to the show. Either way, I thought it was just another interesting fact about the car and I think you guys will enjoy knowing it too now.
